Like some other posts that I can see here, I've had trouble renewing / paying for my membership recently. This arose in the last few weeks as I needed to get a new debit card due to my old one being used fraudulently (elsewhere). Of course, my auto-renew then didn't work. I then find that I cannot used my new (AIB Visa Debit) card to pay with 48 as it fails the security test.
I've contacted AIB and they say there is no problem at their end and that the problem is that 48 are trying to put through a 'test' transaction of €0.01 - but the (updated?) Verified By Visa system will only recognise test transactions of €1.00 or more. This will of course happen to anyone using a new card so we can expect to see more of these threads. 48 support were no help - perhaps they might see this and get their act together?!
I can only repeat what I've been told by AIB. They say they are not blocking anything and that it is Verified by Visa blocking the €0.01 test transactions - note the limit apparently only applies to test, not actual, transactions. I am using the card as per normal elsewhere so the funds etc aren't the issue! Maybe it's anew thing - I dunno, but it only arose when I got a new card last week.
Ask AIB to point you at the relevant Verified by VISA terms and conditions.
I'm very skeptical about what they're saying to be honest.
I'll ring them again later but it seems a bit of a 'random' reason if not true. Also, I haven't had problems elsewhere (inlcuding foreign use last few days) so presumably the problems are in some way 48 - related?
I've been given bogus info by banks and other service providers enough times to maintain skepticism when what they say doesn't obviously add up and isn't backed up with independently verifiable info.
AIB have confirmed that the problem lies with 48 Months. Again, they're putting through test transactions of €0.01 which is below the Verified by Visa threshold (which is actually €0.12, not a euro - I may have misheard last time). The new threshold came in at some stage in 2016, so people registering a new card with 48 since then will fail the authorisation. Apparently, this is all in the Verified by Visa T&Cs which 48 are signed up to! Maybe their staff might see this and sort it, seeing as they haven't addressed the issue with the ticket I raised last week? Or just add Paypal as an option......
I think you're being a bit ambitious looking for such info from a call centre employee! In the absence of any other info, best I can make out is that it's 48's problem - I haven't had issues elsewhere. Maybe if they would respond to my ticket we could get somewhere....
Just to note that, despite repeated enquiries, I have not had a response from 48 Customer 'Service' on this matter since - last message from them was Oct 9th.
