Going away? Using 48 when roaming

[ Edited ]

Can I use my 48 phone when I am on holidays or roaming?

If you are going abroad, 48 supports roaming for calls & texts. Data roaming is not supported, so you’ll need to find a local wifi if you want to use your internet abroad. MMS/picture messages use data to send, so they won’t work while you’re abroad.

What are my options when roaming in the EU?

We have 2 add-ons that offer great value when roaming in the EU:

EU Roaming Calls Add-on (includes): €3.50
What you get now From the 1st May
Making calls and calling your voicemail 15 minutes 60 minutes
Receiving calls Free (1,000 minutes) Free (60 minutes)
EU Roaming Texts Add-on (includes): €2.00
What you get now From the 1st May
Sending texts 35 texts 100 texts
Receiving texts Free Free

Both add-ons will expire 1 month after purchase. You will be charged standard roaming rates to make calls or send texts once the add-on allowance has been used up.

What countries do the EU Roaming add-ons work in?

Our EU Roaming Add-ons work in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Rep, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Antilles (incl Guadeloupe), French Guiana, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Martinique, Mayotte & Reunion, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal (incl. What if I don't have an EU roaming add-on?

Will my 48 phone work outside of Europe?

Yes it will for calls/texts, check out our international call charges here. Mobile internet is not supported abroad so if you need internet, you’ll need to find a wifi hotspot.

Does 48 support data roaming abroad?

No. You’ll need to find a local wi-fi hotspot if you want to use internet abroad.

Re: Going away? Using 48 abroad

Good news for all you 48ers when you're travelling around Europe. A change in EU roaming regulations will mean cheaper default roaming rates. From April 28th, you can call anywhere in the EU for just 6c/min and receive calls for just 1c/min. Texts will be 2c to send and free to receive.

That also means that our roaming add-ons are even better value, so no holiday phone bill anxiety.

We put together this nifty table to break it down:
