Membership being renewed too early.

Hi all, I'm having a problem with my membership, in particular the data allowance, being renewed too early. I was dealing with 48 customer service , Ben, on Saturday, via the live chat option. I told him that my membership, ( info obtained from the mobile data usage setting on my phone), was renewed on December 5th at 09:45am, INSTEAD OF, 11:59pm as per 48's renewal text message. He told me that it was a fault in the system and that according to his systems (both of them), that my plan wasn't due to renew until the aforementioned 11:59pm. He suggested that my membership would update itself correctly last night ( again at the aforementioned time of 11:59 ). IT DIDN'T! As I said to Ben, if I was a little more cynical in my nature, I might think that 48 were deliberately shaving off time from the membership plans in order to increase profits???? I have since been in touch with Conor (twice) via email, who kindly asked me to produce proof of the above, even though I haven't asked for any reimbursement, just that the situation be sorted. Has anyone else noticed something similar? Dok

For example some versions of Android have a data usage monitor in system settings:

http://www.tomsguide.com/us/monitor-data-usage-android,news-21226.html

But this is a local thing and nothing to do with your actual carrier plan per se.

I suspect that you may have misunderstood what this does and how it works and assumed that it resetting the data allowance reflected your membership renewal.
If so then that is not what happens.

Hope this helps.

I've never seen a membership renew at any time other than midnight.
I don't understand what you mean by this:

> info obtained from the mobile data usage setting on my phone

I don't understand how something on your phone can tell you when your 48 membership has updated/renewed?

The mobile data setting on my phone tells me how much data has been used during the duration of my plan/membership. In my case, it is from Dec5 to Jan 4. At 09:30 last Saturday morning, I had used 344MB for the period up until that point. At approx 09:45, I noticed that the amount of data had reset and the next billing period was showing, even though the membership/plan wasn't due to expire until 23:59 that night.

I'm not looking for any kind of reimbursement, just want to ensure it doesn't happen again. I'm not ruling out something local being the problem. We had several power cuts the previous day, for example. The manner and tone of the email, left me feeling like an accused criminal frankly

But surely the mobile data setting on your phone is a local thing and nothing to do with your 48 account and how/when your membership is renewed?
I.e. there's no way that it can sync up with what actually happens with your 48 account/membership?
Many phones/OSs have such data monitors and can be configured to reset the data allowance on a particular date but it has nothing to do with the carrier book/prepay/membership allowances.

"Bill" not "book".

That's what I thought but how then, if it isn't tied into 48 somehow, that the dates of the membership billing period are showing? Would it just be coincidence? If so, why couldn't Ben and Conor advise same and not leave me feeling like a thief? Apologies, but technology savvy I'm not.

The Android data usage thing is definitely not linked to 48 or any other carrier. It's just monitors data usage locally. And the dates for resetting the data allowance are a local issue. Obviously it makes sense to configure these to align with your carrier plan (e.g. 48 membership renewal) but just because Android says your data allowance has been reset doesn't necessarily mean that your 48 membership has been renewed. The two things are totally separate. The only way to know what your actual data allowance/usage/renewal date is is to look at your online 48 account. Hope this helps.

What was wrong with support's "attitude"? Seems to me that they were simply doing what I did above and trying to tease the issue out, understand what was going on and why you were confused?
