Maybe contact 48 support and ask them about this in case they have heard of it happening before?

Thanks for you reply, but I can't seem to find the "telephone > sim programs" options in the settings. I've .75c credit in my account & have tried rebooting phone & nothing. Synching to iTunes is not an option at the moment, either!

The second link above suggests that the relevant setting can be difficult to get while abroad and you have to keep trying until the SIM briefly catches a local network so the phone can display it.

Hope this helps.

This is still a problem with the 48 sim, second time abroad and still searching, it's a joke and I don't see why 48 are blaming iPhone when it is obviously an issue with the 48 service. I am changing provider when I get home!

It's not a 48 problem.
It's a problem with iPhones roaming on other networks.
E.g. Tesco Mobile too.
See here for more info and how to sort this out:

Hi,

I am currently in France and can't get any signal. My phone won't connect to any network for any longer than 20 seconds. I've tried turning it off and on numerous times but to no avail.

Any suggestions?

You're presumably on an iPhone?

In that case you need to try this to get it working there:

https://www.tescomobile.ie/support/question.aspx?id=135

I know it's a Tesco Mobile tip but the same applies to 48.

Just adjust the advice for 48 rather than Tesco.

Basically you need to enable the roaming profile when abroad and then switch back to the "normal" profile when back in Ireland.

I don't know why iPhones are set up this way as it's awful hassle for many people!

You may have to try several times to get this to work as it can be difficult to "catch" the relevant option while abroad.

Hope this helps.
