SIM settings for GPS

I have a SIM activated topped up and installed in a cheap Chinese GPS tracker.
The message and call function works but the GPS location function will only show the location of the connected base station (tower).
According to the instructions I need a 2G GSM SIM with GPRS for fully functional GPS.
I have set the APN (correctly I think), the IMEI thinks its an iPhone.
I emailed support and they were no help.
Does anyone have any idea how to get accurate GPS working?

Any update @kmn?

From what I can see (from Googling that device name) just setting the APN field of the APN configuration should work.

I.e. APN field = 48months.liffeytelecom.com

It doesn't look like any of the other fields need to be, or indeed can be, set.

Hope this helps.

Doesn't really make much sense to me that the location function would depend on the SIM/carrier signal when this is essentially what GPS itself (and the connection to the various GPS satellites) does.

However if, for some reason, it does depend on a carrier data connection then you should follow the instructions here to configure the APN settings correctly for 48.

My phone's internet is not working. Why?

What is the make and model of the tracker?

Hope this helps.

I have set the APN as 48months.liffeytelecom.com.
The unit is - D69 Pet Locator. It is a cheap Chinese GPS tracker.

According to http://48months.tweakker.com and the IMEI, I have an Apple iPhone 6 Plus (A1524) .

I wouldn't trust that IMEI reporting - especially on a cheap Chinese device.
It's obviously not an iPhone!
Does it work with that apn value or not?
Can you configure any of the other apn fields listed in the instructions that I linked to?

Hope this helps.

I seem to have got it working, not sure what fixed it.

I factory reset a few times and left the SIM in a normal phone for a while (after using the internet and making a few calls).

I also found a web based app which allowed me to play with some other settings.

It looks like a normal 48 SIM will work in a really cheap GPS unit even though the instructions require a 2G SIM.

Thanks for your time dalyer, I appreciate it.

Kieran.

BTW doesn't that mean it'll cost you an additional €10 per month in order to be able to track your dog (or whatever?)?
