Going abroad, what to do ?

Anon
Not applicable

Hi,

I'm going abroad to spain on tuesday 18th june and I'll be gone for over a month. My phone plan "the guido" runs up on the 16th june. So I'm wondering should I pay for another month of the guido deal as normal or should I buy some of the roaming packages ?

If I buy the guido will I be able to receive the deal abroad or should I just buy the roaming deals.

I don't need to use my phone in ireland once it runs out on the 16th June.

Thanks !

As far as I know you will need membership anyway so renew your membership before you go. Obviously you can buy now and it will stack and kick in when your current membership expires. I don't think that a roaming add-on will work if you don't have a current valid membership.

You should probably buy a roaming calls add-on before you go as it gives you 10 mins of calls (equivalent of 35c/min which is the normal outgoing EU roaming call cost) but more importantly means that you can receive calls for free rather than for 9c/min.

Note that your roaming calls add-on lasts for a month so even if you use up the 10 mins of calls then you can still receive calls for free but making calls will cost 35c/min from your credit balance.

It was never clear to me if you must buy the roaming texts add-on in order to be able to receive texts or if you have that capability even if you don't. Maybe 48 can clarify? Either way roaming texts will cost 10c each - either via the roaming texts bundle or charged to your credit balance.

If you have regular wifi access while abroad then perhaps the Mitch membership with a big data allowance and TUme might be a useful option?

I think that is all correct based on my own experience of the roaming add-ons but am open to correction if I have made any mistake.

Hope this helps.
