SIM not valid

Anon
Not applicable
When I insert my new 48 SIM card into my iPhone it asks for pin and I only have 3 attempts to do so, I enter my pin and it's successful. shortly afterwards my phone locks automatically and when I unlock it a notification subtitled SIM not valid appears, it says "the SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information." I can't do anything on my iPhone but only click "Try Again" or "Back". What do I need to do? is this a problem for 48 to solve or is it for my previous carrier Vodafone to solve? Someone please help,
Thank You.

First off the iPhone must not be locked to Vodafone.

If it is then you need to get it unlocked for use on any network.

http://www.48months.ie/unlock-your-phone

Then the iPhone needs to be activated on the 48 network.

Put some credit (€1 will do) on your account's cash credit balance because this process require a UK SMS (costing 25c) to be sent.

When you have credit on your account power the phone off and on again and see what happens.

If that doesn't help then sync with iTunes and that may do it.

You can also disable the SIM PIN locking if you don't want to be prompted each time you reboot the phone.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for you're advice, I will try do this, I think my iPhone is still locked to Vodafone so I will start there.

Ok - ask Vodafone if they can unlock it for you.

Normally they will do this if it's out of a billpay contract or a certain amount of pay as you go credit was purchased over a specific period of time (the link above has some info).

An official unlock is better than an unofficial one in most cases.

Especially for iPhones because some unofficial unlocks may involve jailbreaking and messing with the baseband which can lead to issues with updating iOS etc.

Hope this helps.

Hi. I know this post is old but I thought you might be able to help me!

I have just bought an unlocked phone that was previously locked to Vodafone.

I synced it to my itunes then inserted my 48 SIM.

I am getting this message ""Sim Not Valid - The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information."

The seller has contacted Vodafone who have assured her the phone is unlocked.

Do you have any idea as to why it's not working?

Many thanks!
