Using phone in South Africa

Can I use my phone in South Africa. 48 lists Europe, Oceania and North America but not other places. I just want to be able to receive texts.

Cannot connect to any network in Germany

Arrived yesterday and cannot connect to any network in Germany -very frustrating - I have Guido plan and my phone is Huawei P20lite, I tried updating APN settings but still no joy - PLEASE HELP !
