Membership being renewed too early.

Hi all, I'm having a problem with my membership, in particular the data allowance, being renewed too early. I was dealing with 48 customer service , Ben, on Saturday, via the live chat option. I told him that my membership, ( info obtained from the mobile data usage setting on my phone), was renewed on December 5th at 09:45am, INSTEAD OF, 11:59pm as per 48's renewal text message. He told me that it was a fault in the system and that according to his systems (both of them), that my plan wasn't due to renew until the aforementioned 11:59pm. He suggested that my membership would update itself correctly last night ( again at the aforementioned time of 11:59 ). IT DIDN'T! As I said to Ben, if I was a little more cynical in my nature, I might think that 48 were deliberately shaving off time from the membership plans in order to increase profits???? I have since been in touch with Conor (twice) via email, who kindly asked me to produce proof of the above, even though I haven't asked for any reimbursement, just that the situation be sorted. Has anyone else noticed something similar? Dok

For example some versions of Android have a data usage monitor in system settings:

http://www.tomsguide.com/us/monitor-data-usage-android,news-21226.html

But this is a local thing and nothing to do with your actual carrier plan per se.

I suspect that you may have misunderstood what this does and how it works and assumed that it resetting the data allowance reflected your membership renewal.
If so then that is not what happens.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, you replied while I was typing. That certainly makes sense. I shall reply to customer service re same and thank them for their time but not necessarily their attitude. Thanks so much for your help.

What you are saying is entirely logical. I feel like a cretin now lol. I never manually set the date parameters on my mobile data usage on my phone, nor can I find anywhere where I can do this. I'm wondering now if it automatically sets up a monthly usage cycle from the first time I turned on my mobile data ( only have phone 2 months). Thanks once again. I don't know if you are affiliated with 48 but they could certainly learn a lot from you.

This explains how to configure the Android built-in Data Usage settings including data limit, warning level, dates etc.

It makes sense to configure these in line with your membership renewal date, data allowance etc. but the final arbiter on these things will be your 48 online account.

There are also plenty of apps for monitoring data usage but I see no point in using them when Android has a built-in tool to do this.

On the other hand apps may have more features etc.

Hope this helps.

Re: support. It was the " Can you provide proof of this " remark that irked me. You managed to figure out in 2 posts what was happening. I'm wondering why they couldn't in 3 days and why a remark such as the one above was entirely necessary? I think we all may have had a bad day at the office 🙂

Seems like a reasonable question to me to be honest.

I was looking at your link. I don't have a "data usage cycle" option.

What version of Android are you using?

System settings > About phone > Android version (or something similar).

Try switching wifi off.

Make sure that data is on.

Then try again and see if you can change the cycle dates.

If you can then do so.

Then reenable wifi.

If that doesn't help then maybe try this:
